Child name, routine settings, and recent attempts are stored locally in app preferences for a simple family workflow.
Speak, score, unlock.
SpeakToMe is a parent-led speech practice app designed for non-verbal and minimally verbal children. It uses short spoken prompts, score-based progress, and a time-limited reward window to create a simple routine that feels consistent, motivating, and easy to supervise.
The current backend accepts audio clips up to 4 seconds to keep transcription focused on brief child responses.
As of April 3, 2026, the app codebase does not require sign-up, profile creation, or a separate child login.
A simple loop parents can actually run every day
SpeakToMe is built around short wins. The child answers a prompt, the app scores the response, and a reward window unlocks after enough successful answers.
The child sees one prompt at a time with an image-style cue and a short spoken question such as “What is this?”
The app converts the short utterance to text, compares it with accepted answers, and records whether the attempt passed.
After the configured number of successful answers, the app starts a time-limited unlock window and then returns to the practice loop when it expires.
Built to minimise data, not harvest it
The public site, privacy policy, and support pages were written specifically for the Apple App Store and Google Play review process. The current product setup is focused on limited, purpose-specific processing.
Microphone access, speech recognition, short audio clips for transcription, locally stored routine settings, and a device identifier used to enforce daily usage limits on transcription requests.
- No child login
- No third-party ads
- No precise location
Privacy handling, children’s data considerations, support contact details, device and speech permissions, data requests, and the app’s current platform limitations for locking features.
Honest about what the app can and cannot control
The site mirrors the current implementation and documentation rather than promising kiosk-style controls that consumer devices may not allow.
The app can attempt best-effort lock task mode, but a true production-grade child lock experience requires dedicated-device or device-owner provisioning.
A standard App Store app cannot force single-app mode by itself. Parents should use Guided Access or managed-device controls where appropriate.
